Which P for PJ?

Thanks, mate. That's some useful information.

Got my EMGs in 92. Guessing they are OGs. They're clean. They're bright. But kind of bland to me. A little polite for a Fender knockoff. Might not be the magnets. But avoiding ceramics don't seem particularly limiting.

The good news is they rattle around in the Sammik routes. Which somehow never occurred to me when thinking about putting Wildes in there. I take your point about tracking down the dimensions. Very reluctant to take a router to the Sammik. Ruin that splatter paint job. That's 90s paisley, right there. Worth more than the bass.

Thanks again for posting. It's been helpful.
If there are EMGs "rattling around" in the Samick now, there's a good chance that the Wildes would fit - but I'd measure the routes and contact them for the J-45 dimensions to be sure.

Another alternative, if you have EMGs in there now, might be one of the EMG pickups with exposed pole pieces instead of a covered bar - there's the JV and JVX (don't know what kind of magnet they use) and a JV52 (which uses alnico magnets). They make some P pickups with alnico magnets, too, but I don't know that they have any active P models with pole pieces instead of a bar. (The two pole pieces per string, per EMG, are supposed to give more traditional attack characteristics than those of their other pickups).

I prefer Model P + Model J = Less scoop while 100/100 blend, aggressive and lot of Ommph (with aggressive pick) !!!

10.6K - 11K Alnico V P + Ultra J = sweeter scoop PJ voice , more traditional tonal P vibe and less aggressive.

General comment:

Keep in mind that the coils of a split P are inherently hum-cancelling. If you want to preserve that while blending, the J will need to be, too.

That said, bass history is full of single-coil Js paired with split Ps, so if that works for you, cool.
