Double Bass Which part of the hand with slapping

Just curious as to when people are double slapping which part of the hand is hitting the string?

Ahh sorry maybe I should have explained it better. When you pluck string then slap with same hand. Im finding I can pluck and slap the a and d string pretty quick but struggle on the outer strings esp the e. My hand is also slightly curled so when I bring my hand back down it doesnt really slap makes a sort of quiet thud as tips of my fingers hit the fingerboard. Hoping for someone to say its a beginner problem and maybe a quick fix lol!

Palm generally. Palm can slap any or all strings [not just the string you've pulled] to produce the slap sound. Fingertip hits are also a technique but obviously not as loud and could be painful. good examples here: http://scotthinds.tripod.com/

Why dontcha pay a visit to Scott Devine's site (search for Scott's Bass Lessons) and watch his lesson on slap. That'll give ya the bassic (heh) idea.

There are individual variations on the technique. Like Alain Caron's way is not the same as Vic Wooten's, which not the same as Jonas Helborg's, or Brian Bromberg's, or Larry Graham's, or Marcus Miller's, or ...

But Scott Devine's lesson is a very good introduction to slap technique.

You're the first person I've seen actually refer to this. I found myself doing it accidentally, and have been using it as an easy way to get a triplet. I've never found a video on youtube that actually discusses it.

In reference to technique, I liked Pete Turland's vidoes. Whatever you're having trouble with (in terms of slapping), look around a lot, there may be other ways to accomplish something similar. Personally, I haven't found anything to replace time in the woodshed.....still spending a LOT of time there myself.
