I'd pick none of the above and go with the most garishly colored pickguard imaginable, like a multi-color swirl or a tie-dye. Or maybe one with a really funky design. Basic black and white are boring.

The OP already knows what he wants and will pick it (and love it) regardless of what we say, so I figured I'd throw a wrench in the thread like a snarky jack-in-the-box.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I've considered tort but these are the choices that I have as of now.

I made the black one using the original white as a template. It's not perfect but I think it turned out pretty good for a first homemade pickguard.

I've also considered the Jaco look, but it feels to me like something's missing.

When it comes to sunburst basses, there is only one option for me:

Sunburst and Tort - yummy.jpg

However, since tort is not among your options, I will have to vote for black. For me, a jazz looks naked without the pickguard (unless there is a figured top wood of some kind that is too pretty to cover, and then, I pray there is no control plate and a rear electronics cavity for the same reason).

White is just plain wrong on a sunburst. I will never figure out why they use that.
