Which PJB amp am I after

Hello all,

I’m looking for a small practice amp to sit next to my sofa and also take out on the porch to enjoy while taking in some fresh air.

Some time back I would have known which PJB amp to get but now it seems there are about a half dozen or so that all seem pretty similar to me.

Which would you recommend from the current lineup?

I ended up buying the pjb double four.
It is a little louder. About $70 more.

I've had a Double Four about 7 years. I actually use it as my main amp it's so good. I play with a 30 person ukulele group and the leader with a mic and amp, there are times when I'm told to turn down the Double Four.

I tried many of the models side by side. In the end I choose 3 amps. Micro 7 for home practice. I love the roundness in the low end. I chose the BG120 for smaller live events. And the BG400 for larger events.

Either a Briefcase or an M500 on top of a 16-H.

I'm old school. I have a PJB Briefcase in my bedroom. It fits right between my desk and my the wall. I do miss the having a tweeter sometimes I will admit, but I am also blown away at the way it handles a low B at practice volumes. The downside is that it is old and heavy.

I had the Double Four and ended up selling that and buying the new Briefcase. It's bigger, but louder. Crazily enough, it fits me better for portability due to the form factor - I usually keep it in the bedroom, but sometimes it will go down beside the couch. I like the form factor because it sits on the floor by itself - I always felt that I had to put the Double Four on a table or something.

Another nod for the PJB Double Four here. It’s a perfect practice amp if not more, as others have noted. I use mine in a large bedroom when I can’t access my main rig. I’m very satisfied with its tone, said by an avowed tube guy. Yes, it needs to be on a table or shelf and against a wall a few inches away due to its design. Any bookcase will do. I use it with a Marshall Stanmore Bluetooth amplifier. It’s a very compact practice and play-along rig.

I can’t say enough good things about the unit for what it’s intended for.

PJB (several models) and Markbass (Micro 801) are the premium-priced amps but there are many others that are less dear while still meeting size and weight and sound preferences. Google “micro bass combo amp shootout” for some good leads.

Owned both PJB micro 7 and double four...The micro 7 sounds awesome but there is audible white noises at practice levels or through headphone out...if that's something bothers you...look elsewhere.

Double 4, can be run on a battery pack. The new micro seems like a waste when the double 4 is not even that much money compared to it.

I had one in the past and liked it quite a bit.

I auditioned both side by side. The Micro 7 was beefier sounding compared to the double 4. Have not noticed any white noise. I also tried the Session 77 and that was a train wreck sound wise. Its possible the floor model may have had an issue.
