which rig for funk/rb band?

Do you slap? Might make a difference. I've heard a friend slap on a Bergantino and it sounds pretty good.

Yes I slap. Fingerstyle most of the time. Doing James Brown, Rick James, Chaka Khan, Slave, etc. I play a Fender deluxe jazz and a Musicman stingray through an SWR SM-900 now.

Bergantino for sure. The amp heads are all thumpers and don't give you the flexibility to get a Marcus Miller hifi sound. If you need a James Jamerson sound they would work. I've been using a Genz Benz Shuttlmax and it covers all the bases.

I would leave the SVT at home. Can the TH get a modern sound as well as old school tone? I'd probably go with the GK and a Berg or two.

MB Fusion 500 fearful cab. Is a killer funk rig. So which ever cab goes deep and wide while remaing relatively neutral woild be my choice. The Audio Kenesis thunder child is amazing tonally. Not sure that it has the punch for a loud funk band but it may.

The other variable is ... Are you in the PA when in larger than medium rooms ? If so, drop some coin on a good DI as part of your rig. All the headroom from somthing like the MBF800 is kind of a waste if you can't wind it up... I'm in the PA almost all the time so for me the MBF 500 is overkill but it sounds great!

I do not believe I need a sterile hi-fi sound out of the rig. Punch, growl, and a hint of grit.

+1 on the Shuttlemax. I also use the Markbass super Booster which has the VLE filter. It negates the need for a 2 channel head when playing the same music as you. Roll my J bass to the neck pickup, hit the pedal, instant Motown/James Brown.

I haven't used it. Just an Ampeg PF-350 and PF-500. I think that they are funky. I can nail the opening of "If You Want me to Stay" with them and a BP102.

Any rig and any bass can be used for funk, rock, metal reggae... It is all about your eq settings and your fingers.

I know this is a subjective topic but I do like to hear peoples opinions especially when they play this style and know how it should sound. The SWR is not doing it for me anymore. Probably never did.

I would go for the gk. They have a DI built in and enough eq to dial in any sound. Plus they are light as hell, very dependable and won't break the bank. I use mine in a funk/reggae band and it sounds great.
