I have a new Gibson SG bass short scale. I have decided to put flats on it and after researching and reading threads on this, I have decided on either DR Legends or D'Addario Chromes. This is due to what is available where I am and the gauge between strings.
My other bass is a 34" scale Yamaha BB414 which has Rotosound Swingbass roundwounds 40-100. I like the tension and size of these strings on my BB.
Given that flats on average are higher tension by comparison to the equivalent gauge in roundwounds and that a short scale neck will mean that the strings in general will have less tension, what short scale gauge and brand would you recommend to give a similar feel? I don't mind going a bit thicker and stiffer (not too much though) but wouldn't want it to get any slacker.
Out of these two which would you recommend? I understand from other threads that Chromes would be brighter???
Thanks.
