Which Top??????

This is a body shape I designed and I am having it built for me. I already have the maple neck and the pickups/electronics and hardware. Help me decide which one to use!!!

Just so you know, the Goncalo Alves, Spalted Beech, and Zebra will have a wenge accent strip under it. The Wenge top will have a maple accent strip under it.

It will the the top, 1/16" accent strip, then a nice big chunk of genuine cuban mahogany. It is a bolt on neck as well.

That's great!!!! The mahogany has been air drying for right at 50 years!!!! I can't wait.

Goncalo Alves, definately. Speaking of old, air dried mahogany, I just aquired a piece for free (that's right) that has been air drying in an attic for 40 years. The thing is a good 12 feet long by 8" * 3/4".

You know, I was leaning toward the spalted beech, but the more I look at that wenge, the more I like it. Plus I realize that there will be a lot more variation in the beech than in the wenge, and I may not end up with a piece that nice.

+1 That will look great in contrast to the Mahogany body. Also, the spalting contrasts nicely with the clean looking maple neck without getting the body too dark. However, all the wood choices look nice to me.... pure personal choice!

oh, yeah.. well, I have been air drying for about 48 years, so..
i would vote for beech as a close second-
