Gonçalvo Alves! I really like the look of spalted woods, Beech, Buckeye, etc. But my experience is that they tend to be soft. Gonçalvo Alves on the other hand is extremely hard and the natural oils in the wood allows it to be polished to such a high sheen that often finishes aren't necessary. Besides when Smith & Wesson stood for the finest in sidearms, Gonçalvo Alves was their first choice for grip material.

After having time to really look at them which one are you leaning towards now crhoton?

If Larry can get me a piece of spalted beech as nice as the one you put on there, I would go with the spalt. If I can't get one that nice, I would probably go with the Wenge. I think the spalted beech will look very nice against the wenge accent and mahogany core/back.

I know. It has a much more white/bleaced appearance to it than most pieces I have seen.
Not all of the white is natural. I created or exagerated it with photoshop by messing with the black/white levels and the brightness and contrast. I would assume that id you could find a piece that has pretty good contrast of color prior to finishing that a good luthier could coax something great out of it. But I don't know much about that sort of thing.
