Which Used Ibanez ATK?

GC marks them (Ibanez) at half of what they sold for new, so I'd guess new they were $600.
For Prestige & Premium series that might not be the case, though.

The SRX I bought from them for $300 was originally $590.
I found one I liked. I may just pull the trigger today. I'd prefer to find one I like though on GC Used so I can finance it.

That a great bass. The 805 can do the Stingray and Jazz sound.
That's what I love about it. It's definitely the most versatile bass I've owned/one of the most versatile I've ever played. Some versatile basses are a master of none. This one is a master of many. I even like the neck pickup solo'ed, but your posts/videos really have me looking hard at the TMB605, @Dr. Cheese. You always make it sound great and I'm a sucker for P pickups in the neck position.

Enjoy your 805, but my 605 is a great bass. Even the tuners are great. I take it out of the bag, and they barely move. Ibanez is pretty awesome in the $509-$1,000 market segment. There basses compare favorably with many $1,500k basses.

I just picked up an ATK 805e and I'm absolutely loving it. I paid around $450 used for it. Let me know if you have any questions on that model!
Tempting. I was going for insanely impolite, and all signs point toward the 300 for that. However, a lot more bass for not that much more moola...if I'd be happy with the sound. Thanks, I may check them out too.

It sounds like 300 would definitely meet your needs. I can tell you that mine certainly still does growl though!

Really attracted to the ATK right now. Seems like the MM and Rick killer on a budget without giving up much.

@rogerbmiller I saw you are a fan...has anything changed? Should I still seek a 300 series? I want impolite.

I have two ATK 805 from before June 2013, one ATK 805 from June 2013, and two ATK 305 from the 90s and I've tried a few others in store. The 90s ATK305s have a nice chunky neck. My two ATK805 made before june 2013 have a nice chunky neck. The one made in June 2013 has a little slimmer neck but still nicely rounded, not that shallow feeling Fender modern C stuff.

The other ATK 5 strings I have tried have flatter, thinner, feeling necks.

I don't know how well my 5 string ATK experience transfers to 4 string ATK basses because I never played a 4 string ATK. Ibanez is not exactly consistent all the time either. For example, I've tried their TMB-100 and TMB-105 basses but the TMB-100 has a nice chunky neck and the 5 string has a wide flat feeling neck.

There is no substitute for trying them yourself.

Yeah there is actually one locally I might go try next week.

The older models had some real gems. The top of the heap has to be the rare USA model with the Bunker neck. That thing is an absolutely top-notch instrument. They are hard to find and can run pretty heavy.

Right under that, I would put the model that had the quilt top (600?). It came in a blue and a natural color. That bass was superb as well.

I think you should get a hold of the serial number and use it to date the bass (Ibanez Rules DATE YOUR IBANEZ). That way you can start to get a feel for which years have the necks your like. You can also find old Ibanez catalogs around the net.

There are some ATKs on reverb and guitar center right now. If they have the right serial numbers then it may be worth trying them.

Great idea.

The pre-amp/PU setup changed after the MII 300s (early to mid 2000s) gave way to the 800 and MIC 200.
Imho the current ones are a little more polite...but sound good as well.

fwiw - I owned an original series MIJ as well as an MII 300 I am currently selling....they were more alike (imho) than the 200 and 300. However some folks much prefer the downsized body on the current ones

USATK all the way. Rare, heavy and ultra cool. I sold this and have regretted it ever since.
