I am going to look at a 77 4001 Fireglo this weekend sometime. I have used other similar vintage Ricks and liked them. Might be interested in passing onto other if not my cup of tea.

Seriously they're awesome. Try RRF for lots of info about them.By the way, @Ric5's first comment: 2010 4003s are great, I own one and am *very* pleased. But if you want a vintage 4001 I think you need to get a mid-70s or early 80s, back when they had the old school truss rods and laminate necks that were stronger than one-piece. Those basses--if they held up till the present time--tend to be very solid.

If you're not interested, and the neck is 1 9/16ths or narrower, I'm interested... A 16th of an inch is doable... Much more is uncomfortable over the course of an evening.
I'm probably just going to have to buy and try a few... I'd love to have a new 4003. But the necks are just too wide... I had 2009 for almost a year, and just couldn't get used to the width of the fretboard (wider string spacing). I play with a pick almost exclusively. Plus, I switch between other basses, and guitars. I'm sure if I were a dedicated bassist, I would become accustomed to the neck... It's the switching that makes it more difficult. But I have always loved the sound, and looks.
