I had the jaguar and it was fine once I replaced the pickups, shielded the body, and tweaked the electronics, which were noisey. I have the ATK700 in natural and it is a fine instrument and virtually maintenance free. They're not much for resale, and are available pretty cheap; I know, because I bought mine back once I sold it--gladly paying more.

I have the Jaguar, and I've played the ATK several times. My choice if definately the ATK. Though I must say, why these two? They have quite different sound, and the necks are complete opposites. For something else in the same range, I'd recommend an ibanez sr500 or higher, great electronics, and a slim fast neck.

Just think about what kind of sound you want, if you find it in the ATK, you're likely not to find it in the Jaguar.

Just got a Warwick RockBass Streamer. App $599. IMHO it's better than both of those.

I have to say if I was looking for a bass in that $$ range a rock bass would be a serious contender. played one at a local GC a month or so ago and it was really nice. passive too! (happen to like passive basses)

in the end I'm a P guy so that would weigh highly in the mix too ...

If you've never owned a Jaguar, you should get one (just to say you played a Jag). Yes, it's different, yes it probably isn't as sophisticated as some of the others mentioned, and yes it can get some getting used to, but my god, the different tone variations and and sounds you can get from it are awesome! And its looks always gets comments from the audience (girls love it....it just looks friggin cool!) It's like owning a Masarati.....not a terrific car, but the effect it has is worth the effort!! If your into everyday, boring, run of the mill basses, by all means get an Ibanez, Peavey, or Fender J or P, but if your if you want to make a statement..........
