who can school me on Danny Bowens?

Hello Mr. Bowens. I'm not the original thread poster but I also was looking for a little information as i've just started exploring your work with Gil. I love your playing on "The Bottle" particularly. I'm just moving into playing more bass myself (from guitar) are you finger plucking or using a pick on that track, the tone is just so round and really pops. Thanks for the truly unforgettable music and if you can let us know what you've been up to lately. Humbled!

BUMP!

I just listened to The Bottle again after many years, and Bowens' style and note choices totally has me gassed.

Are you still with us?

Respectfully,
jeffbrown
Hey Guys,
Haven't been on for while. Thanks for all the kind comments. On the studio version of the bottle I played a 1970 fender jazz. My favorite version is the live (longer) version from 1976 on the It's your World cd. I played an Alembic on that one. Also played the Alembic on Johannesburg. I didn't play on Grandma's Hands.
Thanks Again
Danny Bowens

Hey Gee Mikey,
I've never used a pick, only fingers.
Which version of the bottle did you hear?
To any bassist...Since I'm not on here very often feel free to send me an email at bowens.daniel at Gmail.com. Thanks for your kind comments about my work with Gil Scott Heron. I have two jazz albums that I've recorded since Gil. I play upright on the last one called Father's Day. I recorded it with some of the top musicians in D.C. a few years ago. Currently living in the Philadelphia area doing mostly composing and playing occasionally. Thanks for asking.
Happy gigging everybody!

I have both versions. It's Your World is a great album.
