Who else loves DR Black Beauties?

Strings and beyond have BB's BOGO for black friday.

They sounded great on my Roscoe and I loved the look until the black flaked off.

I'm in for another round with Black Beauties. I find I miss them.

I definitely like the Black Beauties.

I have the 45 - 105 BB on two Jazz basses. I also have some 45 - 105 NEON GREEN strings on a couple of SBMM Stingrays, including a Ray34. They're nice and I like the feel after some getting used to.

The only downside, other than the higher price, is the basses that have them make some static sounds through the amp when I'm playing since they technically aren't grounded due to the coating. On my non-coated string basses, when I touch the strings everything is grounded through me. And I'm always touching a string somewhere.

What I've discovered after some trial and error is I'm not a big fan of BRIGHT strings, such as D'Addario Pro Steels or EB Cobalts. There's just too much string zing. I'll leave those for the slapper dudes. And I like flats, but prefer something more middle of the road, such as the DR Black Beauties or just regular D'Addario nothing fancy strings.

Installed .040 - .100 Black Beauties on New Year's Day. Kind of a celebration, I bought this 'Ray 47 years ago. Black Beauties are the last strings the bass wore before it went into 7 months of rehab at Santa's Workshop nearly five years ago now. Restored to OEM spec with GHS Brite Flats, I switched out soon to EB Group IV flats.

Needs change, and install Smith Compressors some months ago. Brighter ...
to my total surprise, I like EB Slinkys

it's down to DR Hi-Beams and Black Beauties come New Years Day. Hi-Beams will have to wait.
