Who has sanded and refinished a Acoustic Bass

So I recieved a black acoustic Ibanez bass for free since the headstock was broken thats fixed now and operates great but I already had a black Ibanez acoustic bass go figure so I decided to sand it down and refinish in Lacquer my question is how much better will the guitar sound after the heavey thick poly coat is taken off and its laquer is applied will there be added volume or more resonance thanks for the help

I'm no expert on acoustic basses, but I'd imagine that the impact will be minimal, if not unnoticeable. The several acoustic basses I've played over the years have ranged from having a lacquered finish, to a satin finish, to a lightly oiled finish; there was no apparent trend with respect to tone vs. finish type.

Edit: As an example, the "loudest" acoustic bass I've played was a crappy Ovation Applause AE-140. It had quite a bit of mid and mid-low frequency presence, but had a very thick-feeling black lacquer finish (and the silly plastic bowl-back).
