Who here ever tried Delano pups?

I just wired a 'vintage' PC4AL P-bass Delano in my 70's reissue P last week that I bought from Fred at Beebasses.

The craftmanship of pickup is very good and I was impressed by the amount of sound that came through my headphones after first pluggin it in. Very clear punchy low-end when comparing it to the reiisue Fender pickup which tends to distort a little in the lows. It's somewhat brighter or more open in the mids and high but with added growl or bite to it and did I mention punch? Man, I haven't opened it up on a loud tube amp yet but it's going to destroy while regaining the vintage P-vibe. More output definitely but also more articulation at the same time...I think someone mentioned clear punchy ghost notes at some point and I totally agree...

With the tone rolled off the pickup delivers a very warm, articulate low end. I'm planning on buying another when I get my alder/rosewood P. Also, the pickup housing has the Delano ingraving but its left black and not filled with white adding to the vintage vibe.

its cool that the pc4al is good, but what about the PMVC4 FE/M2? ive been wanting one of those for a while, but not sure how they sound. also, whered you buy yours and how much?

well, they're installed the hybrid sytem, and I've played a gig on them, and a practice. So far so good.

They definitely act as advertized. the jazz pickups sound like an old school jazz bass, complete with the signature sound your all expecting when both pickups are on full, or the bridge pickup is dialed in etc.

The musicman pickup might not nail the stingray sound as much as the seymour duncan did, but the jury is still out on that.

As to the 3 band EQ, the eq points seem odd to me, but so far they sound nice. again, I've only had them on for a week or so, and I dont want to go overboard with mistaking 'newness' for 'awesome'.

so far, I'm happy with them tho. I'll post clips when I get fresh strings.

one thing of note, I now have grounding hum. the delanos werent sheilded like lakland shields their pickups, so I'm suspecting this is the reason. The delano neck pickup looks like 60s style 2 lead single coil that's been potted, and thats the most noisy. I'm going to try some shielding tonight to see if it helps.
