Who here has reduced their collection the most?

btw, there's a guitar store in hollywood called l.a. guitar sales. the owner, ted, told me that he started the store when he had so many guitars that his guitar room was full and he had some more in other locations, as well.

That sounds like the G&L/Rickenbacker dealer near me. His collection grew so big that he opened what is called the Classic Axe Gallery.

In the last 3 years when i decided to reduce. I had 14 and now i have 2 and I'm thinking to keep just 1.
Now my problem is pedals. Buying it, trying it and selling the ones i did not like. The good thing is they are cheaper than basses.

I currently own 18 basses and three guitars. I've got 6 basses listed on CL now. I really thought I liked my Ibanez TMBs and my SRs. Turns out not so much. Great basses but nothing my Fenders or SBMMs can't handle. One of the best basses I own is an Ibanez RdGr 500 I bought for $80. Killer bass and I could sell it for a lot more than $80. So, it all came down to experimenting and learning. I love Fender and MM. Ibanez is a great bass but except for the RdGr 500 I can live without them.

I'd thin my herd here but I never have any luck and seem to always eat the shipping.

I was at 12, and sold all but one for a down payment on my house 3 years ago. Now I'm happily at 7, at 8 it will be a long pause for a while.

3 live in my practice space in my house, 3 live in my guitarist's studio. One lives under the bed, the only bass that made it though the home purchase. It's the first bass I bought new with my own money and I just can't seem to part with it and its not worth putting the money into it to modify it.

It's not a dollar figure as much as a tonal gain versus money spent ratio.

Though this particular instance its a new pickups would cost more than the bass is currently worth sort of thing. It just seems foolish to through good money after bad at something over sentiment. Especially when I could just buy a new to me one with similar equipment for just slightly more.

Who here has made the most drastic reduction in the number of basses they own? Who, at one time, had many basses, but now has only one or two?

I sold all my music equipment so you could say that I reduced it .
I always had 2-3 basses at the time.

I successfully sold four low-end basses... and acquired four high end basses.
