Yes , I think that's him . I saw JLP on either "In Concert" or Midnight Special" back in the late 70s or early 80s . I can't remember when . But I do remember being mesmerized by how smooth and effortlessly he played .Probably Ralphe Armstrong.

There’s a whole new wonderous world of music just a Google search away; then there’s that guitarist with the burned up hand...Who’s Stephane Grapelli?
Wait, you did that on purpose... right?
Do I detect a little wiseassery here ?There’s a whole new wonderous world of music just a Google search away; then there’s that guitarist with the burned up hand...
Well, gee, I could have replied with the standard TB crabapple retort, “use the search function”, “look it up”, or such. But I was just trying to inject a little lightheartedness into being, yes, a wiseass. What do you think I come here for?Do I detect a little wiseassery here ?

Ponty with Zappa.Who’s Jean Luc Ponty?
I don't think it is. Nowhere in any Steve Smith bios does it mention he played with Zappa. Plus Smith is from Massachusetts and went to Berklee. He was nowhere near Zappa. And I believe that's Steve Smith, pre-Journey gig, behind that kit.
He was with Ponty though.I don't think it is. Nowhere in any Steve Smith bios does it mention he played with Zappa. Plus Smith is from Massachusetts and went to Berklee. He was nowhere near Zappa.
Yep, that pic is of the Ponty band, circa 1977.He was with Ponty though.
