Who is using a Barefaced Two 10S? Looking for a cab for smaller spaces...

Looking to hear from any Barefaced Two 10S users out there. Here is the issue...

I have a Bergantino HG410. Great cabinet - sealed 410 with one speaker firing backwards. It works great in a lot of places... but we place a few smaller gigs that need... well... less. Just turning down doesn't quite get the job done. No amount of tinkering with EQ solves the issue. The sound isn't terrible, but it's not quite what I want and depending on my mood it can drive me nuts. I am fortunate to get to play a lot, and I don't need to be driven nuts.

My perfect solution would be a Euphonic Audio VL-110. But they are hard to find. I guess I shouldn't have sold the ones I had . Since there is no sense wishing for a 30 or 40 year old speaker model to resurrect itself, I need to look ahead to contemporary solutions. The Barefaced stuff has a good rep, but I'm wondering how "tight" it is. Another solution would be to find an amp with a graphic EQ on it, but again, circa mid 90s, right?

Regarding any possible responses...

- My strong preference would be to hear from folks using these on gigs.
- Also happy to hear about other available small cab solutions. I have a strong preference for sealed 10 cabs.
- I already have tried Berg 112 cabs, and Ampeg 210 AV cabs. They are not the solution I'm looking for. A sealed Berg 210 might be, but they don't exist.
- I don't want to hear about tort or flats. I'm not anti-tort, I actually like it on the right bass, but the brownish stuff - none of that reddish garbage. As for flats, they are not the solution. And I would far rather spend an exorbitant amount of money on a cab than on flats.
- discussion of mayonnaise or any other nifty cooking tips is not the point of the thread, but will certainly be tolerated. Just please don't engage in the sort of name calling and/or finger pointing that could get it shut down.

I have a pair which are great together, but have also started using one on top of a RevSound 115 for more "booty". One of my favorie RevSound cabs was a 2-8, small footprint, 19 lbs and a great sounding cabinet. I think that there is a used one in the classifieds now.

Interesting suggestion... I remember trying out the BA 12-3 a couple of years back. If I can can a place that has them maybe I'll go have a listen. I don't think there are many - if any - places that stock them up here anymore.

I had a two10 non-S model, but I believe the switch was the only difference and additional power handling between my early version and the current models was a revision in specs of the same driver. @alexclaber might be able to confirm that.

It’s an amazing cab. I was surprised every time I picked it up because I don’t think I’ve owned a cab as light and loud. Honestly the only reason I sold mine was because I had three 4 ohm cabs and needed an 8 ohm option (replaced it with a berg NXV210). I mostly ran it with some tube amps for electric and an EA doubler II for upright. I was always concerned about running the 625 watt rated doubler with the 4-500 watt rated cab, but I never got it to the point that the speakers sounded in any distress.

The barefaced isn’t sealed, but does have that vibe. The low end is surprisingly strong for the size but not at all boomy. I was happy gigging just that cab for electric or upright.

I liked that is had feet on two dimensions and was the right width for this:

It’s perfect for 90% of my loud gigs. If I need a bit more, I switch my Glock to 2.67ohm mode and add a One10 as well

LOL... the amp weighs twice as much as the cab and then some... I bet it sounded good though.

I guess my biggest question - is it punchy? That's the element that I find missing from so many cabs. Lots of bass cabs sound glorious on their own, then you get them to the gig... they are plenty loud enough but you can't get that punch.

If I had to count all the bass cabs I've ever owned on my fingers... Well, I'd need to use my toes as well, and then some. Every size of Aguilar GS, Ampegs, a number of boutique cabs, budget friendly cabs like Avatar and Peavey, etc., etc., etc. Too many.

I currently own a Barefaced SuperTwin, an BF One10, and my favorite cab of all time, my BF Two10.

The One10 is not loud enough for the gigs I normally play (a variety of stuff in the rock genre, generally, and usually at bars). The SuperTwin is a beast and is overkill, and is missing a little something in the mids. The Two10 is just right. I usually pair it with a Genzler Magellan 800 or a tube preamp that I built + power amp. Overpowered, yes, but I know how to use the volume knob.

Using words to describe a cab's sound has never been helpful for me- the definitions of tight, punchy, etc. seem to be all over the place. The Two10 puts out plenty of low end for my needs- way more than the One10; it has the sweet mids that the SuperTwin was missing; it's bright enough for me, even though it has no tweeter (I don't generally go for super crispy sounds), and it's so light that I can balance it on my head while my hands are full. Not actually. But it's absurdly light.

It really is the best cab I've ever owned.

BTW, thanks for bringing up the RevSound... I had forgotten the name of that cab. I may need to check into those as well.

But yeah, Barefaced TWO 10S?

I owned one for almost two years and it took everything I could throw at it. It’s definitely the lightest cabinet I’ve ever owned, and it can take a crazy beating with no sweat. I ran an SVT with mine just like @coreyfyfe!

my issue with it was that I started to be attracted to more crispy and trebly fuzz sounds, and the 210S only extends to ~4K. I ended up selling it and replacing with an LDS 212/6/1 and I’m just as happy

Yes it’s a punchy cab. There’s a lot going on in the 100-1K range from what I remember.

Thanks a lot! That's exactly what I needed to read. I currently have a One 10, and I love it, but I need a bigger cab now. I was hesitating between a Two 10 and a Super Twin, I was afraid that the Two 10 would not bring enough low end, but you reassure me. Thanks!

I think that’s where the BF shines, was in a band context. Wasn’t super bottom heavy, wasn’t too heavy, but sat nicely in the mix with good mid clarity. Different people describe punch differently, I don’t know your definition, but it felt good in a mix to me.

I use two Bag End S10 cabinets. They’re not sealed but the opening in the back is only 2” approximately.
They sound amazing and I have used the both or Just one. Surprisingly huge sound from these great cabs.
I recently used just one cabinet with an TH700 and a full band. 2 guitars, keys, drums and bass. Just great.

I used to own a pair of two10 cabs and liked them but, thought they were a bit dark. I sometimes wished that I had bypassed the low pass filter on one of the drivers to get some top end. After years of experimenting I’ve found the dispersion aspect of these and other designs really doesn’t make that much difference at a live gig.

I like the LPF bypass switch so you can use whatever sounds best (wonder if this could be requested at order time). I did this with the sealed 610 I built and it worked well. The One10 + Two10 stack is not only taller but the upper 2 tens are full range which should improve the mid presence.

Chris, you’ve had both Two10 and SuperTwin cabs. What’s your take on punch and midrange voicing between the two? The ST is a beast, but on comparison videos I seem to lean toward the Two10 voicing.
