Who Makes This?

I'm at work now, don't have a pic of my 4-string, I'll try to post one this evening.

In any case...I bought it about 10 years ago, a beautiful dark wood finish 4-string bass. The logo on it is either CC Clark or just Clark (with some flourishes). I believe it's an off-brand, kinda like Squire, but I've never been able to figure out who makes it. Any help?

Never heard of it, but pics would help. BTW, be prepared for a bit of flaming on that Squier comment...

i dont see why that should be flamed, squire makes some great basses. I loved my VM but its still the "off brand" of fender. Im not downgrading squire, i still use a CV neck on my project bass

Yeah, didn't mean to impinge the Squire nor Fender brands with that...I just meant, I believe this bass was made by a large company, just with a different 'imprint', a la Fender and Squire.

I've since been told that it may have been made by Cort, who apparently made some basses exclusively for MARS. That is where I bought it.

Looks like a Johnston or one of those other odd brands. Indonesia? Pull the neck and see if there are any codes in there that could indicate manufacturer, but I'd say it's probably just some random asian company.

CC Clark was the house brand for Mars Music. They opened in 1996 and closed in 2002. The CC Clark instruments (guitars and basses) were made for a period of less than those six years, in Indonesia. I am trying to find out more myself, as I bought one of their guitars back then. It sounds/handles very well, and seems to be very solidly built, with a matte clear finish on a heavy solid body and a maple neck with maple fretboard, one Humbucker and two coils on a 5 position Strat style switch.
