You always hear about that”classic sound” you’ve heard on thousands of recordings. The American Standard. What are some of the classic recordings? Who were the bassists that had that sound?

Who played the American Standard?

Pretty much the most recorded session players...
Jamerson, Kaye, Osborn, Dunn, Jemmott, Hood, Cogbill, Babbitt, and so on, using primarily P’s and J’s. You could consider standout bassists in bands who were immensely popular at a particular time, but how far their influence reaches is always open to debate. Obviously, I listed those whose heyday was in the 60’s, but these are the people who set the standards and legitimized the electric bass; moving past that era, styles and sounds became far more esoteric and divergent.

I’m referring to the American Standard plywood bass by H.N. White Co. “the gold-standard of American plywood basses”
You'd be further ahead to ask in the Double Bass section of the forum. Here when people see the term American Standard they think Fender.
