Who we are

So my other band member and I are grief stricken because our drummer just moved to California for graduate school. We are pretty discouraged that we won't find a drummer anytime soon.

I once made the comment to someone asking about our departed drummer that drummers are just too rare these days.

The person responded that bassists are even rarer.

What do you guys think?

It seems when you're surfing TB, there's so many of us. I feel personally that I'm drowned out by the vast number of the experienced and talented bassists out there (being only a 2nd year player).

Hmm, I'd probably say that bassists are a little harder to find (In my area at least). I know a ton of people and friends that play guitar (at least 10, maybe more), but I have only 1 friend I can think of off the top of my head that plays bass. I kinda wish more of my friends were bassists, really; you can talk music with any musician, but you can only talk bass with a bassist.

Actually bassists are pretty hard to come by indeed...

Theres a big difference between a BASSIST and a GUITARIST that picks up a bass.


Drummers are always pretty hard to find though i must admit. Most good drummers i know are in multiple bands due to shortages of genre specific drummers available...

Yeah, my area has a TON of guitarists "slumming" on bass to fill a hole in their calendars but very few dedicated bassists. Plenty of drummers, but not so many good ones.

I'm going to go ahead and say that TB is not a great representation of the standard bass population in the world. First being that though there are some pros who use this site and post regularly, a lot of the members are bedroom players mostly, or have a cover band or just play in church once a week (nothing wrong with either of those) but my point is that up and coming pros don't have to compete with these guys because they aren't interested in competing to begin with.

finding a solid drummer is tough to do though. I think the main problem is most of them don't know how to practice. not that bass players do either but drums are a different animal than either guitar or bass

I think it is easy to find a drummer, just hard to find a good one that fits the style you want to play. I can find a decent drummer with some double kick pedals that wants to play any day of the week(but thats not what im looking for), but nobody has a bassist.

I know 6 bassists, 3 played guitar first but switched too bass as it is "easier" for there rock stuff (all that simple 2 note stuff) and cuz its more fun

2 have only played a year and they other is the only senior bassist i know minus myself

I have only met and know 3 drummers they between them are in almost very band in the area i have played with all of them,

currently i'm in 7 bands bassists (good ones/ non guitarist ones/ finger players) are rarer than drummers, but yeah EVERY one plays guitar god i must know 30+ guitarists at least
