Whoa! Roy Clark has the funk!

Now, I've played country music on and off my whole gigging career. It's not exactly my favorite stuff to play, by far. But, it rrreally eases the pain when you have a hot-ass guitarist playin' some smokin' licks. And, this is one country player that I've always respected. And, he's still alive! Check it around 2:15 in this clip. Smokin', I tell ya.

Nice. He and Glen Campbell were both certified studio pros and played a really wide range of music before settling on country for their career paths but they still worked studio gigs at the same time!

That's fun! I have a great memory of jamming with Roy on the set of Hee Haw in the 80s when I was there with John Schneider's band. He has always been a great player and has that in common with Glen.

I've always heard over the years that Glen Campbell is a very accomplished player. But, I've never took the time to check him out. I guess now is good a time as any. Right?

I've never before seen anyone play flamenco style on a steel-string dreadnought guitar with pick - at least not as well as that. Impressive...

My folks went and saw him in Branson last year. My dad (also a musician) said that over the years, he has of course slowed down and "wasn't quite as good as he was".

I looked at him like he was insane, until he qualified it with "But he's still better than 99% of anyone else playing right now!"

Some fantastic playing there. I love the popping and slapping from Roy Clark, and Jose Feliciano detuned his guitar while playing? I never knew it would be such an effective technique.

Glen's great! He sat in with Jerry Reed's band when we were playing in Branson and we all played Southern Nights. It was one of those career moments you don't forget for me. Allan Toussaint produced that record.
Glen's on his farewell tour right now. Go see him if you can.

Didn't know who he was but he's good. he still has the basic 1-5 country feel but his fills and pick-ups take country bass to a hotter level.

I did most of my country listening in the 90's and I really like where country went in that era. Country bass players came into their own as standout players at that time IMO.
It was a bit of a rock tinged influence, I know, but it was pre country pop and melded trad country, rock and bluegrass in a very pleasing way that I really like.

I didn't know who Brent Mason was either but that dude can spank a plank and his tone is the Tele sound in my head. I never get tired of that video.

They had to edit the scene where he shakes Felix and Oscar's hands because after playing that hard his fingers were a bloody pulp. He also did some great playing on episodes of HeeHaw. Whether or not you like country music you must admit that it is a wise career choice. The audience is loyal, multi generational, safe, and has a long memory.
