Double Bass Whole tone scale

Any tips on fingering whole tone scales, other than 1-4-1-4-1-4 up and down?

Eighth notes descending from thumb position, for an obscure piece originally written for flute. I'm working on it because of the novelty of probably being the first person ever to play this thing on the bass. So it's not your usual orchestral rep.

There are some open string opportunities, if I ever get that far without screwing up.
