Who's making lightweight half rack power amps?

If you look around, you may be able to find an ICE 125ASX2 power module (same power modules used in the some micro heads, IIRC, GK (MB series)....GB (Streamliner).....and Aguliar (TH)............They sometimes show up on the bay.......you could get Putnam, to make one based on this amp....

Who is Putnam and what would be a ballpark price for a complete single channel 400+w@ 4 ohm amp?

I've been very happy with my Eden Nemesis ENX-260 head, since about 18mths ago. It's not strictly half-rack as it's about 1.5U high, but it's slightly less than 1/2 rack width at 8". This is the budget version of the WTX-264 which is exactly the same size, & there's also the WTX-500 in the same tiny box.

Cool. Eden makes great amps, I just don't care for the coloration.

Still using my Acoustic Image amp with and without the Mitre Box and several of my friends have purchased AI amps too. For what we're looking for (transparency and headroom), I haven't come across anything I'd rather have. I got a chance to a/b a new Clarus against a Walter Woods amber light today. Both sounded great, I gave the nod to the AI. With the rigs I'm using it allows whatever bass I'm playing to sound like it sounds... warts and all. And that's what I want. Really nice heft along with excellent clarity. I guess what I really like is that it can sound huge with nothing exaggerated, with plenty of room to tweak if you want.

Most of the opinions I've read on TB about AI heads seem divided between adoration and disdain; people seem to seem to love 'em or hate 'em.

The only AI rig I ever played through was a friend's Contra (combo) on DB. But, I've never tried any of their heads with my cabs or electric basses.

I plan to take my Crazy8 and 88 cabs, and basses, and drive up to San Juan Capistrano to audition an AI Clarus at Lemur music after the semester ends. I like the features, size, weight, and specs, and the power should be suitable for my needs. I sure hope I like the way it sounds! :)

True dat, and count me in the love column. I have yet to try anything I like more on DB/EUB. Electric can leave me wanting depending on the music, but I'm only using it for dual purpose gigs with an electric that very much has it's own sound, so it's perfect there (and sometimes I throw a pedal inline). One of the things I love about my AI (Clarus 2R Siii) is that I can hear the difference between cabs much more so with it vs. other amps (I'm guessing because of the clear, uncolored power and EQ).

That's the same thing I'm experiencing... it's like an extemely robust blank slate. I can get it to sound like other amps via my GT-10B or EQ but I can't get the other amps to approach it's unadorned sound which is what I use most of the time.

Should be a great match IME. They use the 8" version of the drivers that I use. My Glasstone "Lil G" cab has two 12PR300 Faital drivers and they sound amazing with my Focus 1R. I liken my amp to my older MTD 635 bass. Ash body, Wenge neck, gloss finish... like putting a big magnifying glass on what you do. I've come across a few players who don't enjoy that sort of scrutiny;). I dig the heck out of it. Each bass sounds like it sounds thanks to the transparency. So does each player.

They put out what they're rated for. I had mine tested to be sure. Trouble with SWR is the pre's put out so much ultra-low end that it swamps the power amp if you don't cut it back. Nothing wrong with their amps though.

Hard to say whether any of those amps would float my boat or not. Unfortunately, the website is so poorly organized that I had no interest in digging any deeper.
