My childhood memory of Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas is a favorite. The hero is a muppet otter than plays bass on a washtub.
My nick was given to me by some band mates, many, many bands ago. It was a comment on how I would **** pretty much any girl with a pulse. It was what it was. I'm glad I was hammered for most of the after gig rendezvous as it's/they're mostly a blur. My tally-whacker is still attached so nothing ventured, nothing gained.
back in 98, i had to come up with a new sn for aol. i had k's choice-cocoon crash, toad the wet sprocket-coil, and harvey danger-where have all the merrymakers gone in my 3 disc stereo on shuffle, so i combined the 3 band names. aol had a limit of 10 characters, so i dropped the double d and the e. ive pretty much used it for everything ever since.
My friends realized I'm big, tall, and hairy. Like a bear. My friends have equally messed up nicknames.
Alucard is from the Castlevania series. Dracula's hale human half vampire son.

i played this game last year and by golly i'm high enuf to play it again! i was googling for a Jaco tribute fretless and up pops this place called TalkBass with a dude who just posted one for sale... i started sweating... what to do,.. Oh! register QUICK,... what name comes to mine?!! Ohhh, jacopas,... (TAKEN), jaco this, jaco that... TAKEN, Taken, taaaken!!!

In 2001 I was playing a text-based game (NERD ALERT!) and I decided to play the Vampire class. I wanted a very unique name, so I whipped out Visual Basic 6 (I'm a software developer) and created a random name generator. After about 15-20 minutes, I saw the name "lareamond" so I decided to google it. Lo and behold, nobody named that. In fact it had ZERO hits. That's me. Nowdays, its all over the internet, but there was a time the first 5 pages of Google were me. 
In a H.S. welding class over twenty years ago, I got real nervous when the instructor had us all demonstrate our welding abilities in front of the class. My hands started shaking so bad I could not get a good arc started. The instructor said I was "shakier than dog $#!t on a razor blade." After that, everyone in the class new me as shaky.
Hoover has been my stage-name/alter-ego since about 1984, although there's no particular reason why it's Hoover and not any other word.
It started when I was working on an album by a Boston band & my (real) name was appearing all over the credits so much (bass, vocals, keyboards, composer, engineer, producer...) that even I was starting to get uncomfortable seeing my name repeated all over the place. Decided to credit the engineering & production to a fictional character: Hoover Rezillo.
About 3 years later I moved to NYC and started pursuing freelance work in two different fields simultaneously (audio engineering & bass playing). In order to keep all the incoming phonecalls sorted out -- 'cuz, y'know, my phone was ringing off the hook I was in such high demand, LOL -- I gave my real name to all the pro audio contacts and I used the name Hoover for all the bass playing contacts. If someone called asking for Hoover, I knew they were looking for a bass player.
The weird (?) thing is I met the woman who eventually became my wife while touring as a bassist...so when she met me everyone on tour knew me as Hoover. 22 years later she still refers to me as Hoover exclusively.

i have never been a gear hound, but when i switched over to bass 7 yrs ago, i found myself needing ebay. the name i came up with for that was doobieus (cause i am just ever so clever like that). i joined a few forums after that and figured i would use anagrams of doobieus for all my online names (oh, so clever).
Years ago my employer (Such A Character!) just came up with it one day. Probably while sitting around with a few frosty ones after work.
I knew there was a musical genius named Thelonius. I liked he irony of me having anything in common with Monk, and the suggestion of felony (Though I am honest to a fault. Humble too.) I have used it as an alias now and then since that day. Even though, god knows, I'll never be much more than a mediocre musician on my best days.
