I can only speak from my experience with my recently acquired 1505. I wanted a Fender P5 but I thought it was overpriced. I found mine with an ebony 'board and mandolin frets for $600. The stock electronics were horrid; way too much treble to start with and a treble enhancer switch to compound the problem. A Bartolini pre-amp leaving me with V, Passive T and an active treb/bass stack turned it into a much better sounding, more versatile instrument. The only problem left to fix is the nearly invisible side dots and it will then likely become my primary fretted bass.
