Why aren't there more 2x10 + 18 cabinets?

Note that a long throw (high excursion) 15" might require just as large of an enclosure in order to achieve acceptable large signal performance. Also, there can be a significant sensitivity penalty for a long (overhung) voice coil that will reduce the effective maximum SPL, and all the wire hanging outside the gap serves to decrease speaker damping.

Tradeoffs all over the place.

Back in the day I used to write Fortran code for an IBM 360/195 that took up half a floor of a large building. No one does that these days I think.

Still enjoy an 18 and 4x8 when I don't trust the FOH operator.
Learned the hard way when a small 1x12 tiltback was all the "bass" heard although I was DI-ed to a huge QSC-powered PA, FOH guy was a rookie with wooden ears who made the well-known country star we opened for sound like garbage. Never again so if the FOH or sound co seems to come from Sketch Land, this goes(bi-amped) so bass can be heard and felt.

Note: A pair of ACME B2's sound better than the above but JC doesn't like running them hard due to a wooden-eared FOH OP.

Maybe it is just me, but I found that the Peavey cabinets with crossovers (1810 and a 1516) sounded a bit strained - like something was not quite right. I have gigged with both (I owned the 1516) but I did not like the sound I got with them. I did have a Peavey 118D cabinet (1x18) cabinet for a while. I thought that it sounded much better than 15's did (to my ears, anyway !) I also used it bi-amped - with a Peavey 2x12 cabinet, pushed by a CS-800 power amp. I thought that this set-up would have KILLED - it did not ! Sold all of it after about 6 months usage.

There isn't enough wheaties in the world to get me to lug one of those around again. I ditched mine for SWRs (1x15 and a 2x10 cab). Half the weight and better sound. (I've since moved on to a 40# 2x12 cab).

VM/370 + DOS/VSE + RSCS. 3780 RJE. WATFIV, COBOL, RPGII, S/370 Assembly. Been there, done that, got the card deck. Later we ran McGill University's MUSIC under VM/370...was more than the poor 4331 could handle. Response time was atrocious.

Oh yeah, had a Peavey 1820 too, with an Ampeg V6B. Muddy as hell, but at least it was loud.

I am sure that if someone wanted to they could make a great 18/210 cab.
We have better speakers today than PV had when they did it.
The thing is, it would still need to either stay put somewhere,
like a house bass rig or have someone to help move it.
I am guessing that there isn't much demand for a movable cab like that
or there would be lots of neo magnet 18s around to fill that demand.
