Why aren't there more 2x10 + 18 cabinets?

There are a lot of reasons, best answer is those were developmental stages for both bass amp design and PA. Glorious as they were I am glad to see smaller, lighter and better sounding bass amps. Back in the day my touring rig was a Peavey 3620 and a 2x15 with the highs pushed by the internal power of the MkVI head lows and full range 2x15 run by a CS800. I also had a Fender Bassman running into a 2x12 for grit. in Europe my rig was usually Trace Elliott, Japan it was Yamaha. You really had to be at least 20 feet away to get the sound of all those drivers but it was punchy and you could feel the vibrations in your body, amazed that with all that my hearing is still excellent.

I've played through an 1820 with updated speakers... not too shabby and definitely didn't struggle like it's older versions.

And hey let's face it, if the giant 3620 was good enough for my man MCA, sign me up. I actually would love to have one. I would never move it, it would just be one loud accomplishment kept in the corner of the studio.

Peavey has since come out with the 1516 again, and from what I have read the reviews say it sounds pretty killer.

For many years my only cabs were a used Peavey 1820 cab and a Peavey 810TVX cab. After about five years I gave the Peavey 1820 cab a refresh and installed a new Peavey 18 inch Black Widow speaker and two Peavey 10 inch Scorpion field replacement baskets. I powered my refreshed Peavey 1820 cab with a Mullard/Electro-Harmonix re-tubed Ampeg SVT 3Pro. To me, I loved it. It sounded massive, full, powerful and with proper eq it cut threw the mix very nicely. I sold it in 2014 for some modern lightweight Neo cabs. In my opinion, the Peavey 1820 cab with an Ampeg SVT 3Pro ruled and was highly dependable. But at about 120 pounds for that rig it was way way way to heavy and cumbersome.

I love the sound of 2x10 and 1x18 together ... But I do it with 2 cabs ...

I've been playing 2-10 neon's for the past 6-7 years. I love 'em. however I played a new 2-15 + tweeter that Revsound made up and I gotta say that it sounds amazing. the newer neo 15's move very fast and with the tweeter it's really clear and defined. if you're on FaceBook you can see it here:

i got a good deal on it but never got use to the sound of the 18". plus that thing was a beast to move. did not have it very long.

I had one of those Crate monsters also, got it for my high school graduation in '86. I ended up selling it to my drummer who used it as a monitor lol. Aaahhh the '80's.

Yup, and at one time I could read the characters in each column by the card punched pattern... helpful when there was an extreme need for a ribbon change on the card punch.

im trying to remember what incredible processing speeds i had when i thought i was the coolest kid in town with my IBM XT maybe 4.7 mhz holy smokes!!! that is fast
i had 2 floppy drives whoaaa. and even had dual hard drives absolutely unheard of. i think each drive had a whole smoking 10 mb hard drive.
dont forget that ridiculous expensive Quadram that was like 384 KB of ram. ohh geeez its ridiculous to think that even a garbage garbage cell phone absolutely blows that away by a landslide. or even when all the big wigs had there ridiculous expensive cigar locker at the cigar club cause they had a this wierd new thing called the internet and for 2 grand a month membership fee you could send......emails whooooaaaa. and smoke the most expensive cigar on the planet. there was even a rich doctor there that had a Phone!!! in his car. that is just crazy talk

From an acoustic standpoint, it's hard to get the 18 and the 10s to blend well using a passive crossover because the 18 is a lot slower than the 10s. If you biamped it and had some DSP, you could make it work well, but with added cost and complexity. The enclosure will be big and heavy even with neo drivers.

For the same reason you don't see near as many 2x15 cabs as you use too, shipping. I called Avatar speakers a few years ago about a 2x15 cab and talked to the owner (I think his name is Dave). He told me that shipping cost on anything that big just made them un-profitable for them to make. Today so many cabs are sold through the web and
