Why bass over guitar?

I picked bass first because I was drawn to that part of the song in the headphones - the record that did it for me was Nevermind, specifically the bass on Lounge Act. I loved how the bass sounded at the start - and how it propelled the song and was frankly more interesting than the guitars to me at the time.

I played bass for almost 8 years before picking up a guitar - and initially the guitar was intimidating because there are certain luxuries you get used to playing a bass guitar, but I persevered and ultimately became a better musician overall for it.

I think the wise choice is to go with what draws you into the song first - if you start with what interests you, you are more likely to stick with it. Simple as that - but don't be surprised if eventually you pick up other instruments.

Because bass moves my pants. In more ways than one. ;)

I played guitar for almost 2 years before some friends talked me into coming to jam with them while they were looking for a bassist. That was about 20ish years ago, and while I "main" bass I have played the 6-axe a few times for bands or a fill in.
