Why Bass?

So we all play bass here, but why? I'm certain we all have our own reasons and stories why we chose the bass over a multiple number of others, the elephant in the room being the guitar. I would love to here everyone's story as to why.
Mine isn't much. I joined my middle school orchestra wanting to play violin, was told my hands were to chubby, so I had to play cello. Later I was switched to the Double Bass because no one wanted to play it. Eventually I grew to love it, and six years later, I still love the bass.

So what's your story?

Because Cliff Williams, David J, Eric Avery, Paul Denman, Simon Gallup, Adam Clayton, and a few other cats. I like the sound, the responsibility, the (potentially minimal) role suits my style--supportive, not out front. & I realize you can be out front as a bassist.

Bass steers the ship.

Well, as a very young child I started out as a drummer. The bass was a natural extension of the drums. To this day, still a far better drummer than bass player although with age, my arms and endurance are slowing down, so my bass talents are catching up fast!

I played piano for 11 years at the time, I was 14, now im 17. So I wanted another instrument to try, so I tried guitar, played for about a year and was like "ya this is cool." Then one day I was thinking "What does bass really sound like as a solo instrument." so I YouTubed bass solos and I was simply blown away at how awesome a bass sounded. I had always been a fan of classic rock at the time, but classic rock bass just doesnt stand out like it does in funk and R&B etc. So I naturally wanted a bass really bad after watching people like Vic Wooten, etc.
Bass opened me up to so many other genres and groups I was missing out on. imo no guitar solo compares to an awesome slap or finger-style bass solo.
