Why buy a Sadowsky?

I have two Chinese Sadowsky’s and both are very good. My Modern has the VTC installed and it is my number one player. A NYC Metroline Sadowsky would be really nice, but I think the Metro Express is really great at the sub $1,500 price point.

No way to shield before 79? Rubbish, just ask Alembic and EMG, let alone several decades of basic electronics before that. I have a whole shelf of texts from this period.

'Transistors are the closest you can get to tubes' more rubbish as the transfer functions are not at all alike. The only way they are similar is that they're discrete, rather than being formed on the same substrate in an opamp, where the tolerances are also much better controlled.

I don't have any doubts about the quality of these instruments, but in these days of CNC machinery, where professional-grade instruments can be made in any country and/or for much less money, paying 6k for a Fender copy (yes, it's a Fender copy) makes little sense to me.

It would be great if the one intended for the USA were sent through the NYC shop for a quality check and final setup like Lakland or MTD. It would great if all North American instruments passed through the NYC shop. For reasons that we cannot go into here, that may not be feasible. I just know Michael Tobias does this with a small shop of less than ten employees.

This and every other interview with any player or builder that's been around for awhile are the same stinkin' stories over and over. They must get tired of telling them. Yet I keep watching.

EVERYTHING is getting expensive.

At the very least, Roger has been diligent at his efforts with his import lines. And, he has put his preamp, both Onboard and Outboard versions, out there for refits into whatever level of bass a player wants to use. I use them in several parts basses and on some of my boards, which get frequently gigged; and, on tape, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Roger maintains a shop and crew for his hand assembled basses. I own one of those. It was expensive. It is outstanding.

What was the question? No, I don’t think Roger had any hand in things getting as expensive as they are.
