Why buy a Sadowsky?

Run your hands over every surface of a NYC bass and you will find that every edge and corner has been slightly softened. For some reason (cost and time) less expensive similarly CNC'ed basses do not get that level of attention. So while the use of CNC machines for bodies and necks may be ubiquitous, the fit and feel of his basses is on a different level.... and that level, in his case, utilizes USA workers with USA overhead...
Per the agreement with Warwick, the NYC shop can only make 15 basses a month or 180 a year.
I’ve had two NYC Will lee basses. Both good sounding basses, that both had pretty significant neck dive. For the prices they ask I just don’t see it, at all.
My answer to the question is this.....buy whatever you like and can afford. There is absolutely no need to get approval or justification from others.
Roger Sadowsky has limited himself to the amount of instruments he's allowed to produce? How do you know? Have you seen the agreement or heard Roger saying this?
That was an article that discussed the arrangement between Warwick and Sadowsky. I don’t have a link, but it can be found. Roger Sadowsky is surely very well compensated for this arrangement.
I know you know I’m not trying to tell anyone what to do. I just shared Roger Sadowsky’s explanation for he developed his basses the way he did.
I wouldn't post anything like that unless I could link to a trustful source, like say... Roger Sadowsky. That's how rumors are created.
Absolutely . And I thought this was a good video that you shared. My intention was to say that if you like what Sadowsky offers, respect the brand, then buy it. Buy the import, buy the Chines version, buy the Germs offering, buy the Japanese, buy the USA. Whatever work for you. No way was I suggesting you were saying buy a Sadowsky. I know you too well to ever think you would do that.

Imagine you wanted the basic design of a Fender, but with a different, more hi-fi tone, lighter weight, better attention to detail, better QC and better customer support.
A lot of people don't seem to understand that a big part of the reason RS was successful in the first place is that he was able to offer something in a familiar package to people who wanted something a bit different from what Fender had to offer. Many Sadowsky owners also own Fenders because each of the two brings something different to the table.
I'm pretty confident that nothing passes through Michael Tobias' shop other than the odd individual's bass that needs some work done on it. The crew is typically two to three people and they have their hands full with producing the handmade line.
I’ve had a Japanese Metro, many NYCs and one German made Metroline. The original metro was too heavy so I started my love affair with NYCs. The German Metroline, at over $3K was not like my NYCs, but at half the price, a viable option for many.
Since I’m no longer gigging, I’m down to one NYC Sadowsky, an incredible bass. I’d rather spend $7K on a Sadowsky J than $12K on a mediocre playing and sounding vintage Fender any day of the week. And I’ve played more of them than I can count, looking for that magic one.

For what it is worth, I would not repeat something I was not sure was correct.
Makes perfect sense to me.
Outside production is a valid business decision. It builds and maintains brand recognition, adds welcome income to the company and gives the ordinary Joe the chance to connect.
You can look it all up online or you can ask Roger Sadowsky in the Sadowsky Club thread. I am not perfect, but I do not make a habit of posting about things that I don’t know about.
