One man's "crap" is another man's treasure.For many years I went to the NAMM show and would collect all this stuff. When I would come home my wife would roll her eyes and say "another bag of crap". I still have all of that stuff.
OP: It's funny how your taste and style change over the years; back in '85 I thought my 1st brand new (American) Fender Precision Bass (Black with a Maple neck) was all that I'll ever need; I didn't know Jack Sh** about amps back then, I just knew I wanted it big and loud and it had to have a 15" woofer, ... actually that hasn't changed I still love 15's
... As far as I know, there were no 5 string Basses back in '83/'85, And if there were, I probably would have frowned on them. 
Now a 5 string Jazz Bass (Fender or Lakland) is "where it's at" for me ... and My Lakland 55-02 ... and my Sire M7.
