Why do I have fever for Alembic?

I've been gassing for an Epic 5 for some time. There's a new old stock '97 model in a shop near where I live. Its been hanging there for almost 7 years! The only thing holding me back is the handful of mediocre/negative reviews lingering around here on TB from past owners of the Epic...
...well, that and the price (which is why I suspect the bass hasn't sold after all these years).

Epics are cheap secondhand (check ebay), so you could buy and try, and onsell for minimal loss if you decide you don't like it.

I've thought of that, but money is tight... thats why I was trying to get the guy to trade up even for my Warwick.
I kinda figured he would be able to sell the Thumb in no time, since all the teenaged metal kids are buying them up like crazy.
The wife would cry foul right now if I bought another bass, but she might not notice if the number of instruments hasn't gone up and little or no money has mysteriously disappeared from the checking account. :scowl:
