WHAT! There are other reasons for playing a bass other than "I saw it in a cool video!" I base my entire life on cool videos!!!
Ahem, I once owned on of the low end soundgear models. The electronics were noisy, noisy, crap, but I had no problem with the neck, playability, or tone, at least at the price I paid.

The Ibanez Bass I played before I found the P-Bass I now play was/is a great instrument. But the P-Bass just punches through better.
I am coming to dislike the SR line more and more because my SR400's neck warped bad and now my action is so high its not funny. but the Ergodyne basses are really nice to me. I like the way they look and from the few that I have picked up they are well built and they play extremely well. But my next bass will not be an ibanez. I am going for something like an Elrick, Tobias, or Pedulla. I dunno. maybe something custom probably and fretless. I just wanna step up in quality. Though nothing bad can be said about my SB900
Just my opinion but, condeming the whole Ibanez line because of the 400 series is kind of like bashing Fender because of the Squire line. I have an SR 885 that I used as my #1 bass for years. I have yet to adjust the neck in 10 years. Yes I had some problems with the electronics but it is not a piece o' crap. I also have had problems with the electronics on my Warwick. It happens. At one time I bought a SR445 as a back up and couldn't stand it. Not near the quality of the 800 series. Right now I have my SR885 up for sale and can't hardly give it away because of all the negative talk about Ibanez. Too bad because it really is a good playing and sounding bass. I just prefer my Fenders.
It's the same thing with Squiers. As cb56 said, the 400 is like a Squier (maybe better, but you get the point) in that it's more of an economical model. But I agree, their higher-end stuff (BTB's) are quite good. I played a few myself, and they had a nice feel.
I am by no means an expert in bass quality, but I don't think one needs to be.
I have been playing bass for two years. I started on an Ibanez GSR190. After about six months, I bought my BTB405. I have never had a single problem with it. I take it to the music store I bought it from all the time to have it looked at. All the Ibanez bashers have me paranoid my neck is bad, or something is wrong with it. Each time I take it in, they find nothing wrong. They are slowing teaching me what to look for and adjust, but to date, they have never had "fix" anything. It isn't even ever out of tune when I take it in. All I use at home is the little Korg CA-20 chromatic tuner that looks like a credit card.
I must admit that I have fallen prey to GAS a few times, thinking that I just have to have a "(spendy bass brand name inserted here)"
to be a legit player.
I have played live about six times now, and I each time I got compliments from the crowd, and other musicians about how nice my bass sounds.
Most people bash Ibanez because they aren't a "cool" brand to own. With the exception of the those who have gotten a bad one.

I have a BTB 405 and I think it's a very nice bass for the price. I like the neck, string spacing, it have a decent preamp and the body have the size that I prefer.

Why don't you guys with the warped necks call ibanez and get replacement necks? I'm sure they'd accomodate.
Had a GSR200....was awful. Horrible neck, poor electronics, couldn't get MY sound out of it...played an SR300DX, hated that, same problems...however, I did play an ATK in a shop, and found it to be pretty nice. Nice punk sorta sound if you get the settings right.
i have a old ibanez from the 80's the thing is the weight i hate i played the warwick corvette standard which everyone says is heavy but i thought it was light compared to my ibanez
You're right, I DID make a stupid decision. It was only stupid, because IBANEZ's product failed. I didn't make the bass. That's like buying a car that turns out to be a lemon & instead of blaming the dealer and/or the manufacturer,,, blaming yourself for buying the damn thing.
Point is, products are SUPPOSED to be problem free. NOBODY buys a bass with the intention of getting an F'd up instrument. I can't believe I'm reading this.
Anyway, Ibanez may have changed. It'll just take me some time to trust them again.
