Why do people cut off semi trucks?

I was a volunteer for a while, and a trucker for a few years, too. It makes no sense to me why people just can't get it through their heads that you don't stop 30 tons of 18 wheeler as quickly as you stop 2 or 3 tons of 4 wheeler. They aren't nearly a nimble, either.

My best guess.

There are people who figure that the law of man will give them money if they get hit by the truck.

But they forget the law of physics which decrees that they will suffer far more than the money is worth.

I am teaching my 12yo daughter about the difference between the 2 laws.

^This. They're little people who need little victories to make them feel big. Cutting off semis, not letting other drivers merge, tailgating, speeding into parking spaces when they know another driver was closer, etc.

I'm not anti-cop (not trying to turn this into a cop-bashing thread Cheezewhiz ), but in my anecdotal experience, the police are just as guilty as anyone else of violating universally known traffic laws. The tailgating comment reminds me of a night a number of years ago where I was driving down a two-lane highway and a state trooper rode my ass for about seven miles. If I would have had to brake for a deer or some other hazard, the cruiser's engine would have been in my trunk.

With that said, when cops pass me like I'm standing still on the interstate and other similar highways, I don't mind much. Even though I'm not doing anything wrong, I think like most people, I don't like being tailed for any significant amount of time by an officer.

Cops here do that all the time - sit right up your clacker, which is bad enough when any vehicle does it, but even more nerve racking when it's a police car. If they do that to me, they get the same treatment as any other tailgater - I just tap the brakes a couple of times, just enough for the brake lights to come on. Stuff 'em; they're supposed to obey the same laws as everyone else.

Me too. If it doesn't work, I wash my windshield, excessively and if necessary, repeatedly. That usually works. Cops hate to mess up their cars.
