Why do people discrimanate?

Atleast I'm not christian...

  Case and point.

Just what was that supposed to mean?

Sarah -- To answer your question, yes. I think that discrimination is almost always an attempt by someone who doesn't like him/herself to feel superior by belittling someone else. People who feel good about themselves have no reason to put other folks down for no good reason or to treat them as inferiors.

As for the kids at school, I wouldn't judge them too harshly. They are at an age where most of them really don't have a good sense of who they are and what they really feel/think about issues such as homosexuality, morality, etc. They are likely just trying to act the way they think will gain the approval of their friends. They've still got some growing up to do. Some of them will outgrow that and some won't.

Have courage and recognize that there are some things you have no control over. That's true for all of us. You change what you can and accept what you can't change. Enjoy life. You're only young once.

MJ -- My hat's off to you. Gotta respect a man that will stand by his beliefs. Especially in the face of determined opposition. That's not real common...

I'm not going to get into whether I think homosexuality is wrong or right, 'cause Sarah didn't ask that. ;)

Hey BrokenAngel....you assumed, and made a stupid rhetorical comment yourself. Bedroom behavior is not something people use to determine their associates? Hmmm...you sure about that?

I said..."People choose to associate with people based on their interests, personality and general demenour NOT what they do in the bedroom".[

Yeah, i'm sure about that. Oh, except for maybe people like you. You may choose your friends based on their sexual habits. If so, go team you, but it's kind of abnormal behavoir, dontcha think ?

I think this is the really sad thing - that it is not abnormal behaviour amongst young men - a lot of them are totally obsessed with getting sex and nothing else.....and only realise what they were missing when they mature a bit! :hmm:

My partner often talks to me about this and how astonished she is now and that she wished she realised this when she was younger - but she just couldn't believe that so many young men are so obsessed and focused on the one thing - when it comes to relationships.

So - she went back to university recently as a mature student and couldn't believe the behaviour of these supposedly intelligent young men, when it came to relationships - she wanted to tell all the young women not to bother with them!! ;)

"that it is not abnormal behaviour amongst young men - a lot of them are totally obsessed with getting sex and nothing else."

Yep...and that is why it is incorrect to say "People choose to associate with people based on their interests, personality and general demenour NOT what they do in the bedroom"

Well - you are making a fundamental mistake here - that is, assuming that everybody else, or "people" are like you!

So I was saying this applied to "young men". Look at census demographics of the US adult population, for instance :

18-24 18%
25-29 14%
30-39 23%
40-49 26%
50-64 14%
65+ 5%

So - as male and female are roughly 50-50 - only 9% of the population are what I would call "young men" - under 25.

That means 91% are not young men!!! (Actually more, as we are not including children here and only adults.)

Although from some of the discussions on TB you wouldn't think so!!

:hmm:

i'd say that 29 and under should also count as "young" because I want to be considered young until I'm 30...and at that point I'll say the cutoff age should be 40....and then..

Well, I think the point is that after 25, men start to get a bit of maturity and learn what relationships are really about - they learn what young women have known for much longer and start to "catch up"!

Calling someone a christian is an insult in Sweden, I guess you have another culture. But enough of this, from now on you can post as many personal insults as you want, just don't expect any replies.

Depends on were your coming from. Personally I wouldn't take it as a insult since it's true. My experience is that it applies to younger teens (13-16) then people start to mature.

I think I read the comment differently than others have. In my case, sexuality was a factor when I chose my wife.

Sexuality is A factor some people use when choosing associates. It is not the only factor, but one of many. Interests, personality and general demeanor are also included. I suppose some use sexuality as their only criteria, as demonstrated by the sad experience of your partner at college.
