My inner sense of rhythm and natural inclination towards drums and percussions .. plus, tone-wise, Chris Squire’s bass intro on “Heart of the Sunrise”, best hi-fi woofer test tune!

I burned my hand in a frying pan full of tugboat potatoes when I was as 18 months old. When I was 16 and already playing bass for several years, I had my second of two reconstruction surgeries and they were able to get my fingers to move normally. Before the operation my index and middle fingers had scar tissue that kept them from straightening out. They would get about halfway and then ‘pop’ into full extension.
After the surgery, they work just fine.
Ive had 1 skin graft, 2 reconstructive surgeries and over 500 stitches in that hand. 45 years later, and my poor Mom still feels bad about it. Lol. View attachment 4905991

Did someone who already played inspire you? Or was it just that a band needed a bass guitar player? It seems that musicians have affinity to a certain instruments -- so for you, why bass? For me....the sound!
I am also hard of hearing - essentially deaf in my left ear for as long as I can remember, except for very low frequencies. It still is not clear if I actually hear them in my left ear or if the sound is travelling through my skull to my other ear. Anyway, I'm a bass player, not a bass guitarist. I hardly played bass guitar (I can also play guitar) until about 10 years ago when I started having durability issues with longer gigs on upright. Until I was in college I mainly played in the symphony.I had to switch because I contracted measles from my son's daycare
Maybe someone answered this but it's great laying a framework and listening to the guitarist/soloist building on it. When it works, it's heaven. There's just something about this instrument -- the bass guitar. What attracted you to it in the first place? Was it the low sound? We’re at the halfway point! I was a guitar player from age 10. Because the Beatles. 35 years later I picked up a bass to play along with a band I was in and BAM, I knew I wanted to keep doing THAT. I stand out front, sing leads and harmonies, and rock with the singer and guitars and keys, but also hold it down with the drummer. I play bass because bass is the shizzle. And I get to hang out with you guys. Most of my life I thought I was John but all along I was Paul.I predict 15 pages
That should be classified as a superpower.I can go bum bum badoinkadoink and make people nod and wiggle.
You are my spirit animal.Because playing bass poorly is less abrasive to the ears than poor guitar playing. I was never gonna be good at any instrument, so I figured I might as well pick the one that I was least terrible at.![]()
