Why do you use Fender strings?

I can assure you, they weren't an afterthought. I designed the current Fender string program...packaging, spec., soup to nuts. I took two years with no vacation (my family was not happy) when all was said and done.

FWIW, many hear might not remember Trace Elliot strings, but I put that program together too and still consult with several different brands.

I sincerely take no offense that you don't like the strings (strings are very personal) but, it certainly wasn't an afterthought. :bassist:

great job!!!

Great job! The flatwounds are IMHO/IME way better than what came before.

The pure nickel 7150XL's sound really nice as well, particularly on a fretless bass.

I just installed a new set of 7350XL rounds on a Peavey bass my kids gave me for christmas-that is the bass I have set up as my roundwound sound bass. Those are some of the slinkiest feeling stainless steel rounds I have ever laid my hands on. I like those better than the old 7350's honestly. In fact, I may seem to be in the minority here, but I think the new Fender strings are as good, if not even better, than the old ones.

Thanks Roger! :bassist:

Sometimes I think it's just a matter of what's the right string for the bass (i.e. best tool for the job). I have a pre-Gibson Tobias that I've probably tried with every brand of strings over a 20 year period. One day, I put on a set of 7250's, and they just worked beautifully.

I left them on there for 5 years, something I never do. I recently put on a new set, and I'm just waiting for them to lose a bit of zing and bring out the sweetness of the wood. They just turned out to work really well with this particular bass.

I put the new Fender flats on one of my basses and am really enjoying them. They sound a bit less bright to my ears out of the box compared to the Chromes. But not as old school as the LaBella flats.

And you can't complain about the price!

I remember that TE had a promotion where you could receive a complimentary set to try out. I got a set, loved them, and then couldn't find them anywhere. What a shame - they had all the benefits of Rotosounds without some of their drawbacks and the light green silks were all sorts of cool. Last time I saw Doug Wimbish, he said he still had a box of them, but this was years ago.

You're not at least a little curious about trying other strings? What if they improve your sound and playing?

Well, I can't say I'm not curious about other strings. I do have La Bellas on my Hofner, and they sound and feel pretty good, and if I get another bass I'd like to give some rounds a try, maybe DR Sunbeams. But I've got a set of the new Fender 9050MLs on my P-Bass, and I like the sound and feel of them just fine. ;)

Fender strings NOW are not really Fender strings at all, they're D'Addarios. I could tell the difference instantly when I strung up my jazz with what I thought were Fender SS rounds. The package and stuff looked familiar, but didn't register as being D'Addarios. When I played out of my amp with the strings, I noticed the E string was really weak sounding and wasn't punchy at all, everything just seemed less punchy. When I looked up some posts on here about them, the news about D'addario making the strings now made perfect sense

I want my REAL Fender strings back:bawl:

Ha. I'm afraid to take fender strings off my jaguar. The (now one year old) original set still sounds great, and I'm certain suit the bass perfectly. Zing where it's needed, heft where it's needed.

I have another set of 'new fender' strings here to put on but I'm delaying the change til I really need to do it.
