Why does everyone love AMPEG so much?

Though I like an old school bass sound, I have difficulties to a sound out of an Ampeg that I like. So far I have used an old early 70's SVT and a 90's V-4B(H). Both I used with a 1x 15" cab. Maybe it is the amp/cab combination or the bass/amp combination or just my playing. The V4 is okay but not loud enough (maybe also a problem of having the wrong cab) I once used an SVT 3 Pro on an 8x10" cab, that was nice. I am thinking of getting a Weber Mywatt 200 (Hiwatt clone), I think it will fit my style better and doesn't cost as much either. Most of my basses are active (Fender US Dlx J, Gibson RD Artist and a Hamer w/EMG P/HB), so maybe those don't fit an Ampeg anyway.

It's their cabs. Play one of their heads through a different companies cab and your opinion will change. I use to think the same thing until I played an SVT through an Aguilar 4x10. I now run my own SVT through a GB cab and it's magical.

Ive had similar experiences. I never really like ampeg on ampeg rigs. I think the bright GK amps match perfectly with the sometimes dark and muffled Ampeg cabs.

I really liked an Ampeg 410HE when I used it years ago with a BBE Bmax preamp and a bridged Carvin DCM1500.

My biggest complaint is with what I feel are the underpowered Ampeg hybrid amps. All-tube SVTs are loud and sound great, but Ive felt that other Ampeg amps have let me wanting more. And thia comes from a guy who has owbed or played through most of the Ampeg line, does not play at insanely loud levels and normally boosts mids and cuts a bit of bass on every amp.

I agree with the quoted post about mixing and matching Ampeg. IMO. IME. YMMV.

the 410 and 610 hlf classic series cabs are something special. by luck or design or something they came upon a winner with that cab. The SVT ? its a large tube amp, you really cant go wrong, they have a sound and its desireable to a lot of folks. everything else (and i have played through a bunch of it, im not blowing smoke here) is just kind of there. nothing that inspiring. certainly no worse than a lot of things out there, but not really any better. for some reason lack of definition is in vogue for some bass players. an amp/cab combination that reveals "poor technique" through its accuracy is not desireable.

Sounds like way to much work, expecially for someone who really doesn't care what other people think about them or their opinions.

Oh well.

Then why are you posting here at all? To hear the clicking of your keyboard? Why are you responding this late in this thread?

I don't believe that you don't care what other people think or about their opinions, or you wouldn't even be on here checking on this stale-@$$ thread.

This thread will never die as long as you believe in it with all your heart!
