Why does Fender Japan get all the good stuff?

There is a bunch of hollowbody jazz basses that are just sick looking. If they were MIA one would be mine. I have a thing about only trying to buy American instruments (I don't even own a Fender). It's not a quality thing but a pride in American fabrication. To each their own...
I went to Japan last year, and the music stores are so amazing!
stuff that was so much fun and cool, I regret not bringing back any basses.

What do you mean Fender Japan gets all the good stuff? They make black/maple Precisions in the US.

Maybe they just build them better than the fender shops elsewhere, making it worth having them make the more interesting instruments.
Japanese ones have so far been the best fenders I have tried(in terms of attention to detail and over all built quality anyways).

WOW, I didn't even realize there was a Fender Japan with models not sold in the US. That PB70 Ash is to die for.
What really blows me away are the special orders by big retailers like Ikebe and Ishibashi - at least until recently they had all kinds of cool stuff like "Billy Sheehan" models with neck position humbuckers, special finishes, etc.

The US is not the UK, and Fender has no plants there to compete with Fender Japan. Fender Japan supplies some stuff to the US but it's limited by the agreement with FMIC not to compete with Fender US.
But I still can't order a Sonic Blue P with a unlined maple fretless board from either

But I was just on Facebook and saw G&L post a picture some guy ordered - so he comments on the post on Facebook. Super cool - but it doesn't seem like too much of a challenge to offer an array of finishes (the ability to personally order them is overkill) Take your order and custom the finishes. I just don't think it's that difficult.
1 have a bunch of different color paint.
2 allow/require the factory workers to add binding or different color pick guard...
I don't know - just seems like such an operational fail.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I wish there was a store nearby that imported some of the MIJ line. I would think they would sell like crazy. I'm not just talking about jaw dropping items like the walnut jazz and semi-hollow jazz. I mean honestly, I wish MIA made natural ash P's like these. You can't tell me these wouldn't sell.

Yes, DEFINITELY not "super custom" but it's a step in the right direction. No fretless option, very limited on woods, and generally a bit more complicated than the drop-down menu on Guitar Center's website. Also, adding chrome pickup covers would be a nice option
i'd buy one. back in the late 90s/early 00s they had natural ash bodies but i don't see em come up on ebay too often
