Why does slapping open strings feel so good?

Seriously... The feel is so much better when slapping open strings. And then, the more you move up the neck while fretting, it gets less attack. Yeah, I figured it's shortening the string length, but I'd love some input just to make sure it's not my technique or anything.

Open strings do ring differently, more room to move so you can hit em harder. Paradoxically, a lighter technique is the cure. First focus on striking the fretted notes lightly but quickly, getting the tone you want. This will give control and precision in your slapping. Then Practice alternating open and fretted notes until you can match the volume of open notes to the fretted ones.
