Your blanket statement was lumping ERB's in with jazz and fusion and whatnot. I was merely using that as an example of the half-baked, hair-brained statements you seem to like making. If you feel the need to come in here and insult me and call me an "elitist snob" then you need to get a life.

You are an elitist snob. A lot of Jazz and Fusion guys do play ERBs(which as I previously stated is absolutely fine with me). I was fully baked when I made those statements thank you very much which were in response to your and other elitist snobs half- baked statements. Like I've said before I don't have a problem with Jazz or Fusion or any other type of music. I do however have problem with people like you. Get bent.

I own a custom built Alembic and would happily use it for rock. But then I'm not "elitist" and believe there is both good and bad in all types of music. And most of it is purely personal preference anyway.

I own a Series I; I was being a little self-deprecating.

I'll play mine in any setting. It just seems that some people who own them, like any other brand, consider some styles and players unworthy of the equipment.

Which is odd, but whatever floats your boat, I guess.

There's a breakdown somewhere in the middle where the guitars cut out and it's just bass for a few bars. But since it doesn't stand out to me as "terrible" sounding when the full band is playing it leads me to suspect that his tone probably works fine when in the mix, and I don't think Sepultura have a lot of solo bass parts.

well i was never a big sepultura fan (truth be told i hate that style of metal)
but
in thier deffence maybe the bass player wants his bass to sound like that?
just because a tone and technique are not the tone and technique you'd use yourself it doesnt mean its bad

ok so you dont like the sound he uses that doesnt mean you can critise it and call it bad at the end of the day sepultura have shifted more albums and played at bigger venues than most if not all people here on talkbass so if the bass sounds so horrid do you think they'd hire him as a bass player? and do you think they'd be playing donnington?

First off, I am a fan of Sepultura. More so in my teenage years but I still have a lot of time for them. I consider the bass sounds on Chaos AD and Against to be among my favourites of the genre.
I have no issues with Paulo's technique. Perhaps he did want his bass to sound like that, I don't know.

I am well within my rights to criticise his tone on this clip because I think it's terrible, and that's my opinion! The amount of albums Sepultura have sold and the venues they play have no issue in this discussion. I doubt that bass tone has any impact on whether a band gets to play Donington.

And Paulo was never 'hired', he is a founder member of the band!

If you have issues with people expressing their opinions about bass sounds, don't hang around Talkbass.

It most certainly does exist-it's interchangeable with B, since the two are enharmonic tones.

It comes up more often than not as an accidental. Cb must sound lower than B to some people.
