Why isnt bass playing competitive...?

As a BMX rider and Bass player, I'd say people can treat it how they treat it. Some riders/musicians just want to have e-recognition on forums and youtube, some just enjoy what they're doing, others have aspirations for endorsements, enjoy making modifications/trying other producs, branching into different sub-genres(park, street, trail/fingerstyle, slap, pick), making products, or even just enjoying other talented enthusiasts. What part of that also makes it a sport is up to you.
Cuz no one wants to listen to a bass solo (except your mom). Keep it under 3 seconds and you'll be alright.
Actually, bass playing can become a competition. I don't agree with that concept, but it does happen.
maybe one of the competitions could be 'how long can you stand with your fender jazz strapped on'

I've been playing with a Jazz V for awhile. If I picked up a 4-string, that competition could be going awhile.
There is a bass composer competition ... but those player are really really good. Not your typical "I lock with the drummer and support everyone else". They play more like Micheal Manring etc.
And there also solo battle sometimes ... You could easily find a wooten battle on youtube

Imagine this seriously: What if Victor Wooten REALLY announces a live competition with a drummer on stage, with a previous convenient training/study period and the firts place prize is a Brand New Fender MIA Jazz Bass??

I would, but intention is to share a good time with fellow bassplayers without being discouraged if you lose, that nice prize will make you struggle for practice more

Music should never be a competition. Yet many musicians treat it like one, especially guitarists. I played guitar for eight years, had some pretty good chops too. But recently i switched to bass, and i am now having more fun because no one is expecting me to pull out some flashy solo **** and outsolo the guitarist in the next or previous band. Now that im on bass, im appreciated for important things, like my excellent (if i do say so myself) timing and locking in with the drummer, as well as effective basslines. No competition of any kind, just having and awesome time playing.
There was a solo bass competition held in South Carolina. Jeff Schmidt won it one year. I don't know if it's still happening.
