Why Look anymore???

To me it has always been a "to each their own" in this funny little world we have here in TalkBass. Myself being in my 40's, I have only found very recently my ideal (or my perfect) setup and sound (5 string Fender PBass through Ampeg SVT 3 and 4 Pro, going through 2 ampeg 410 cabs), and believe me, I have tried more than my share of basses and amps/cabs. While it was all fun, it was also a little expensive when I thought I found the sound.. who knows, maybe my mind will change again in a few years...

At any rate, I have always maintained the opinion that every individual bass player here should have their own ideal setup and sound. Everyone is different here, thus there will be a huge amount of bass/amps/cabs combinations to give them what they really want.

I owned a Mesa head (400+) and I wasn't happy with it at all... hence, the SVT 3 and 4 Pro (yes, I own one of each). I am glad you are happy with what you have, and I am glad that you are proud enough of it to post it.

I think he is getting Zen on ya Marty, and saying when you are so at one with your bass that you aren't playing bass but just expressing yourself while you are at one with the bass....then you'll be the best bassist you can be. But you won't know it because you'll be focused on expressing your spirit not the bass you are playing...

IDK! :D

I do get what YOU are saying Marty. More power to ya. Sting could play anything he wants, and he has 2 beat-up 54 fender Ps from pawn shops. He just decided that's what he is happy with and doen't need or want the other stuff anymore.

Nothing wrong with knowing what you like, and being happy with what you have. I respect that.

I understand that now...makes sense to me. Rock on...

Marty

I really like the idea of finding a hidden gem in a pawn shop, flea market, GC, etc...

You never know how much you will like a bass until you pick it up and play it.

Is a bass that plays/sounds amazing worse just because it's a certain brand/price/style you usually don't gravitate to?

Happy for you that you really like your current ;) setup.

There's no reason for you to look at more gear. There's no reason for you to post this thread. There's no reason for me to post a response................sometimes people do things for strange and/or no reason!

I have some truly wonderful gear that does everything I need while sounding and feeling/playing great.

I don't look at amp heads actively anymore, though a smallish all tube amp would get a good look.

New basses are always fun to try. Noodle a little bit on something a little different than what I already have. Probably not worth my $$$, but maybe I'll come across one that speaks to me.

I always look. I love my collection, but I love trying other basses. Also, it gives me yet another opportunity to get into ERB's, which I just can't seem to get into. Also, I can't seem to like ibanez(zes?). I tried one years ago and loved it, but now none of them appeal to me. Anyways, I always look, just so maybe one day, I can find that really cool beat up vintage bass that sounds great, but no ones ever heard of, all for about $400-800. Closest I found was an Eko Florentine. it was $750...and I didn't have any money...
