Why one should never judge a book by it's cover

A friend of mine (a musician) sent me that link the other day.

What I find puzzling is that this woman is a sensation because she can sing and she doesn't fit society's idea of beauty, as if one has anything to do with the other.

Contrary to the OPs suggestion, I find its useful to judge a book by its cover when that book is of the adult variety. Sure you could open a copy of "Gay biker midgets" one day and actually be confronted by busty supermodels, but I'd rather not take that chance that more often than not, it would be gay biker midgets. YMMV, but there are some times when judging a book by its cover is just fine! :D

Just goes to show that the media has it all wrong. What happened to times when you could be butt-ugly, gap-toothed, and otherwise goofy looking, but if you could actually SING or PLAY then YOU, the talented, could get a f****** RECORD DEAL?!

The sad part is that when they scanned the audience before she actually sang, some of the "beautiful people" had such derisive, scornful looks on their faces. It's a shame that she had to display such awesome talent before most of them were able to treat her with dignity and respect...

I knew from the thread title what this was about. Watched it a couple of days ago. Not my type of music, I am not prone to emotion, I have 6 big tattoos and a seventh on the way, love heavy metal but listening to her sing gave me chills. Almost did bring a tear to my eye because of the emotion of the audience and the song.

At 1.51 the one male judge (not Simon) swallows and likes he has lump in his throat, verging on tears. Cool.

Har! Your diatribe reminds me of Margaret Cho's standup routine about her mother discovering a copy of "Assmaster" magazine. Hysterical!
