I agree with you.
She is a good singer, very good singer.

Would it still be on the net everywhere is she was a great looking 23 years old chicks?
I'm not sure.

There is a black guy on america's got talent with a great voice, great singer. At least as good as this woman. We haven't heard about it on cnn, or on tv news like we did with this woman.

I watched this again and now really believe this was set-up. I really think mainstream TV is all about opportunities for hype like this.
Like those so-called reality talk shows with weird couples admitting to all kinds of things and they are really just actors.

That's why this is considered a "surprise?" I'm not familiar with the show so when I saw that clip I couldn't figure out the reason for the shock. I figured they must of either thought she was slow in the head because of the way that she was fumbling about, or that this show typically features goof acts like the Gong Show. But it was because she was fat and homely? And here I always thought that was the stereotype for great opera singers.

This shows that musical talent and appearance looks don't go hand in hand. My first thought was that this was going to be something like Paul Potts' first appearance in the same show, which it was. A stunning performance by someone who didn't live up to the appearance standards of a star in the music business.

Then, when reading this thread, I also started to ask myself why I thought the performance was so extraordinary. The performance was absolutely great, no question about it, but there's other singers (but very far from all) that can do the same, that do fill the standards for how a musical artist is supposed to look like. I know I wouldn't have reacted the same way if such a singer would have been in her place. I would still have thought that it would have been a fabulous performance, but I've pretty convinced there wouldn't have been a thread here about it unless she would have been on the older side, overweight and on the less beautiful side. Aren't we all pretty shallow, when thinking that when she's not fitting the appearance standards, she must be bad? (otherwise it wouldn't have been such a surprise, right?) Shame on us. :hmm:
