Why right to left?

Makes sense for me (being right handed) to have the input on the right, otherwise you'd have the instrument cable on the floor under your feet.

I have no idea if that is the reason, but it does work better that way.

I don't know--I'd have cables there whichever side they were plugged into--but as most people are right handed it's easier to hook them up that way--although L to R seems like it would fit better.

On a slight tangent. Why is is that stomp boxes tend to 'read' right to left, whereas multieffects (with a couple of exceptions - looking at you mr zoom multistomp) read left to right?

There's really no reason for thinking about this as long as it works though, I'm sure more would have wondered about it if they kept stepping on their cord every gig.
