Why so many more StingRays/Sterlings than G&Ls?

current stingrays are leo fenders red headed step children. i didnt notice a huge difference between my pre eb and my current eb stingray 4. they just have the heritage and the quality. oh... yeah, and they sound friggin great. their slap sound is just... just... i love slapping on stingrays. they sound good with other styles as well, but, man, they slap like crazy, as in, set your eq to 9 and run direct.

ive never used anything aside from a stingray 4, but im sure the rest of their line is great too.

flea used one. justin chancellor used one. ive seen tons on stage (the linkin park dude has a 5er). they can do anything well. maybe you dont want one if you only tap, or if you only play more like wooten, or you like jazz basses, or whatever. they are versatile and they sound great. buy one. ive played stingrays since i sold my mexican p bass six years ago.

oh, and rosewoof necks suck. i hate you if you have one. black on black 2 band eq maple neck here. thats the best stingray to get in my opinion, which is why i own one. im going to buy a couple more in the coming years, stringing them oddly, but still, i wont convert; they rule.

Pffft that's nothing. I had rosewoofd in the past and hated myself for it.

So did we ever figure out why G&L is smaller in number than MM? Has anyone thought about the effect of Reganomics on the bass industry back in the early 80s? Probably has something to do with it.

I just think He was being passionate in his response about not liking rosewood as his fretboard of choice:hiding::hiding::hiding::D

To be honest I'm not a rosewood fan either.
Maple, Ebony or Phenolic (of some kind) works for me.

having owned both a MM Sterling 2002 5 and a GL ASAT *my current bass* I would have to say that I prefer GL hands down but that is more to the type of player I am than the bass.

For me its all about what bass works FOR ME and not for other people. Can you really say one is better than the other definitively? IMO no you can but thats the beauty of choice and in the Bass world there is a axe for everyone. Just because I prefer a GL now does not mean I will not own another brand in the future its just that the bass choses the player.

If your a MM player, your a MM player vice versa.

Though in my experience people seem to keep GL's in their collections a lot longer than MM basses. :ninja:
