Why So Many People Playing Fender Basses?

Mine hasn't shipped either, but I'm trying to figure out who makes direct fit black tuners, knobs and a bridge. I don't want to have to mod anything.

That's why I don't want to order tuners for mine. lol

Knobs should be easy enough, I'd imagine everything from eBay cheapies to stuff they may have at your local guitar store should fit.

As for the bridge IIRC there's the Fender high masses, and Hipshot bridges that should be a straight swap.

There's always the Fender P Bass club here, I'm sure they know of a bunch of different drop-in options.

I put a Kickass on my new Sq VM Jazz Fretless. They have it in black too....
My biz partner blacked his P bass with a Kickass... Can't remember what tuners he got..

I put a Kickass on my new Sq VM Jazz Fretless. They have it in black too....

IMO bridges make 0 difference to tone, and like maybe a 1% difference to playability. It's all about the looks. All of those brands should have a drop in replacement. My Jazz bass has a black eBay high mass bridge, they're like $8 CAD and even it was a drop in. Just needs the holes in the right places. So go with whichever you like best and will fit (or the cheapest that'll fit). If you're buying from a specific store you can always contact them, let em know what you've got and ask about returns if it doesn't fit.

Speaking of looks I found a set of Fender tuners with an F stamped semi-closed back. I'd be willing to drill a couple holes for those, they're so pretty. (Also I've never had a bad set of bass tuners so again I'm going purely for looks.)

Tuners are okay to drill holes for I find. I've even widened the holes the machines go through without any issue, and I did it on a kitchen table without doing any measurements. I have drilled for a bridge once, but I vastly prefer not to. Drop in bridges should preserve the scale length and as long as the factory did their job will go in the right place.

Good luck in your search and modding! 6 years later I still look at my modded Squier Jazz and think damn that was a great idea.

Want a thin fender neck? Try a Geddy Lee sig jazz bass. It almost feels like a toy

I would like to see fender make a 66 model with lollipop tuners. Or even a series with them. I just don't know why but I think they look cool. They only had them for a year or so, but would love to see a series of them in a model. I know I can get them but it would be an interesting series with them on.

They must look good. I was thinking more of the Jazz and Precisions. Not knocking the mustang... Great basses also.

They did it to save money cause they were taken over. I think it may some of 67 till they went back to the clover. But 66 was the change.

I can say I put one on my Fender jazz special and the adjustments are just awesome to get string spacing perfect. It's a great choice.

I don't know, but when I pick up my Telecaster Bass it just feels right, and believe me, I have tried them all at one time or another.

Man, are you ever right! I have this new 50 Classic Series Precision. The maple neck is the size from a '57 P-Bass...which is exactly the width at the nut of my '68 Telecaster. Anyway, it's killer! Beautiful. New. And killer. And after playing it every night for a week, I pick up the Tele and it's just...like magic! The depth of the old vintage "C" neck is just a bit deeper and rounded than the new version, and it just plays like a dream. Perfect neck! And the sound is whatever you want...as long as it comes with a side order of Telecaster mojo. They are truly great basses!

I spent weeks thinking about a direction to go with my next bass. 5 string, Yamaha, Ibanez, 6 string, Squier, Fender, P, J... etc.

And then I got up and went to the store. Of everything on the wall nothing had a neck with the comfort and easy movement that the Fender satin neck does. Which is why I think a lot of people including me, buy Fender despite the price.

But the other point is in about 5 minutes I was able to rule out Ibanez 5/6 string spacing as too narrow, Yamaha necks as too waxy, long scale being trivial now... basically weeks of paper work whittled down in minutes.

Why So Many People Selling Fender Bass's ?

For the same reason why so many sell Honda Civic: they're best sellers so the market is full of them.
I don't mind Fender either but we must admit they've got ''that''.

Fender & Fender-styled basses are the most available, and work for most people.

One thing I figured out about the heavier Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass (SVMJB) is that it sort of wants to stay where and how it sits in space. It can make you put more player motion in your act by hanging it on the strap and moving your body to get into finger positions. Just sort of let it hang loose and squirm your body to get that best playing position and it's pretty good at just hanging where it is.
